During my internship at Grafik (Branding and Marketing Agency), I took charge of designing a mission statement wall for NAMI( National Alliance On Mental Illness) for their new location.
The client commissioned a mission statement design wall for their new location. The design has to encompass the community that they are advocating for but also to display the brand's identity throughout the design.
PRocess:
In the first step, the design had to be scaled down to half its size. The half-scale size is 179” x 25” in, and the final output size is at “358 x 50” in.
Working to correspond with Nami’s website, I applied a soft blue gradient to the background. I felt this would be successful in the design because it incorporated their brand colors but also, blue is calming but also symbolizes serenity and reliability.
Next, I collaborated with the client to select a variety of photos that relate to their mission statement. One example being the teenage boy raising his fist in the air, to me the photo is powerful and incorporates the differences in age, and color of the community.
Using those photos to construct four panels, the panels are (half-scale 8.5” x 11” in, to final output size 17” x22” in) with a backlit, giving depth to the panel. The panels are the anchor of the word cloud with typography treatment.
To include some typography treatment, I created a “cloud” of words that pertained to the client’s statement of purpose. Each word was scaled to its appropriate size to achieve a balanced composition of text and image.
